Step into Moli, a recreated Chinese nightclub from the 1930s, where you can indulge in a fantasy without contradiction. This three-month old gem in Greenwich exudes a unique glamor with its soaring two-story décor of tiled arches by Rafael Guastavino, the same artist behind the iconic Ellis Island and Grand Central Oyster Bar.
Originally home to the Putnam Trust Bank in 1915, the building now exudes the aura of a Shanghai speakeasy, complete with a crystal chandelier that could belong in a production of "Phantom of the Opera." Spanning 2,500 square feet and boasting 110 seats, Moli is the first Chinese venture for owners K Dong and Chef Steven Chen, who also own Kumo Sushi Lounge, Miku Sushi, and Hinoki in Greenwich. Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef Tin Huynh, a Chinese-American with a background in French culinary and experience in renowned Asian nightclubs like Tao and Hutong in New York.
Moli's atmosphere caters to the bar and set-up crowd, with booming bass and drums that make conversation a challenge. However, the upper level offers a respite from the noise, providing a better place to enjoy your meal. With an extensive menu offering carefully crafted sushi, delightful dim sum, and flavorful dishes like crispy glazed eggplant and Mandarin-style branzino, Moli ensures that there's something for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss out on their Peking duck, a tableside spectacle that is perfect for sharing. Finish off your meal with their western-style tiramisu or other delectable desserts.
To complement the dining experience, sommelier Isaiah Levy has curated a wine list that goes beyond the usual offerings found in Chinese restaurants, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate. And of course, Moli offers a variety of exotic cocktails to complete your night.
While the menu may not break new ground, Moli's classic Chinese cooking shines through in every dish. So, if you're looking to elevate your dining experience and feel swanky amidst the theatrical surroundings, Moli is the place to be.
