Fall Fun at Sam Bridge Nursery and Greenhouses

Discover the rich history and legacy of Sam Bridge Nursery & Greenhouses, a family-owned business established in 1930 by Samuel F. Bridge Jr. After studying horticulture at renowned institutions such as the New York Botanical Gardens, Cornell University, and Kew Gardens in England, Sam Jr. returned home with a wealth of knowledge to grow beautiful perennials and rock garden plants.

Since its humble beginnings, the nursery has grown and thrived. In 1950, it found its permanent home on land owned by the family since 1686. Over the years, the nursery has expanded, accommodating the growing demand for its exceptional products and services.

Recognized for their commitment to tradition, Sam Bridge received the prestigious Connecticut Century Farm Award in 2002. This accolade acknowledges their dedication to preserving the values and practices that have been passed down through generations.

Embracing innovation, the nursery implemented computerized point of sale systems in 1994, streamlining operations and providing a seamless shopping experience for customers.

In 2014, the facility underwent remarkable renovations, introducing a cutting-edge Nexus greenhouse store. This state-of-the-art space not only enhances energy efficiency but also serves as an attractive retail space for customers and an optimal growing area for plants.

Continuing the family legacy, a new generation of Bridges joined the business in 2021. With the partnership of Maggie Bridge, Sammy Bridge IV, Bill Palmer, Rich Palmer, and Nick Bridge, the nursery looks forward to a new era while honoring the cherished traditions established by their grandfather.
